A Father’s Day Video for Church

Download full res version to use at your church:–a-father-27s-gift

This video was put together this week in time for memorial day.  It has a similar feel to my “Freedom is not Free” video.  It parallels the statue of liberty’s symbolism with the good news of the Bible.

First of a new series

New video, first of a series.  I used Andrew Kramer’s Old Film tuturial-  Narration is from the book “30 Days in the Potter’s House” by Douglas Marks-

Determined to make it work

Where to begin? It’s 6:10am.  I’ve been working on this short video for some time now.  It’s finally done.  I’ve had some trouble with it, but I’ve been determined to make it work.  And I think it does in the end.  It started with me wanting to get better at After Effects.  So I ordered a 99 cent DVD, and a $5 book, and total training on DVDs for $25!  But those haven’t come in yet.  So I watched Andrew Kramer’s stuff on (an amazing FREE resource!!!).  I started a file I named “exp” short for experimenting.  Well, that experimentation turned into this video.  And it “ate my lunch” so to speak for the better part of this week’s free time.  Yes, I did take the fam to a  D League basketball game, I wasn’t an absent presence at home.  But just about every minute I could squeeze in, I was editing.  Whether it was preparing the images in photoshop, tedious work with magnetic lasso, or eraser, or the actual 3D animations on AE where every keyframe has to be perfect, it was pretty draining for a 1 1/2 minute segment!  The night before last I worked 4 hours straight, slept, couldn’t sleep well because my mind was still editing, woke up edited more, went to work, came home for lunch, edited and ate, went back to work, came home, edited, rendered (which took all night) went to bed, couldn’t sleep well because I’m DETERMINED TO MAKE IT WORK!  At 4:30am this morning I was able to add the music and render in Premiere.  I think it’s finally done.  I’m sure experts could have done it a lot quicker.  This was my first stab at this genre of video.  By the end, I was finally getting the hang of it.  In the process at times I was scratching my head!!  Especially since I started in the middle and had to backtrack.  Oh well.  Here’s the video.  Enjoy!

You can download or preview here too: (sound is much better than youtube’s version).

Just in time for Easter

I was inspired to do this song a year ago.  Some friends had us over for a Christian Seder meal, which is part of the passover celebration.  Jesus and his disciples were celebrating this at the last supper.  The closing ceremony is something called “dayyenu” which means “we deserve no more”.  At our church this year we will put on a church-wide Seder meal and possibly use this video at the end after reciting the traditional dayyenu text (Christian rendition).

Be blessed this easter.  You are.  It would have been enough, but He’s given us more!

Just Have Fun With it!

Excerpt from my new CVMag article: Many of us in Christian Video ministry in churches across the country don’t have formal training in all of the areas that we work in. Much of our learning comes “on the job” and through reading of publications (such as CVmag). I’m reminded of my kids when they start a new sport – soccer for instance. I know that they are not going to be like the great Pelé. They are just starting out. It’s ridiculous to make such an assumption! So what do we tell them? “Just go on out there and HAVE FUN WITH IT.” And they do…most of the time.

First Potter Edit

I recently took some footage of an ex-professor of mine, a great man and friend, Doug Marks throwing a pot on his potter’s wheel.  He did one of his wonderful conferences at our church.  We were so blessed and maybe you can be too.  Email him for info on hosting a conference or to obtain his book:  Then I found this song by Daniel Bashta.  I obtained permission to use it and edit it down for time.  Daniel’s info and CD is available for free even or for a donation at  Here’s my first edit with my pottery footage:
