A New and Ancient Technology

At 5:55am an alert went off on my phone. That meant that at 6am there would be a Cavetime call (www.cavetime.org). This was a bunch of men from all over the United States that all got on the same call and for 30 minutes shared together and heard Jeff Voth share a word from Luke chapter 2.

At 8am I arrived at work at GNPI (www.gnpi.org). We had friends who make up our network chime in together from all over the world in a one hour long video conference.

New technologies made both of these meetings possible. It’s really neat how we can foster real relationships spanning great physical distances!

In both of this morning’s examples, there was a common denominator that drove us to come together. That is the most ancient of technologies: prayer.

Yes, prayer is the first and remains the most powerful of all technologies.

I realize that this statement is more of a semi-clever way of putting things, and less of a perfect analogy, but as someone who believes in the power of prayer, it’s a nice thought! Through new tech, we came together and did ancient tech with each other. We prayed with and for one another (even in other languages)! It was a thing of beauty, and always is.

I didn’t film this morning’s event. But the last two years at this time I did and you can see those examples below:
