For Mother’s Day

Got Mother’s Day covered, but Easter’s first. Yesterday Emily and I had an idea for a cinematic Easter illustration. Here’s the companion to “Crazy Things Dads Say.” I like the last 30 seconds the best.

I used Kyle Holt’s “The Bible in Rhyme” for this year’s Valentines videos- two versions of the same passage: 1 Cor 13 (of course).

The Christmas Story (Like you’ve never heard it before)

December 3, 2010 Leave a comment

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree…  We know the words from Luke 2 by heart.  We hear them every year around Christmas time, as we are reminded that our Savior came down from heaven to earth.  I love those words and I love Christmastime.  Christmas and Advent videos abound in Christian circles.  There are new videos being made every year.  This year, my new video features that same text, but like you have never heard it before.  The next installment from my partners, The Bible in Rhyme, is “Luke 2”.  We are very excited about it!

Here’s a remake of a fun piece I did a while back.  I walk through the process in an article for Christian Video Magazine called “A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words”- http://www.christianvideomag.com/cv2010_10/cv2010_10gfish.pdf

2nd Video in TBIR Series

I’m so glad to finally have this video done.  The Beatitudes from Kyle Holt’s “The Bible in Rhyme”.  I very much like the way it came out.  I just took too long on it!  Little pieces here and there.  Then a big push yesterday and it’s done.  I’m especially proud of the salt bit.  Hope you enjoy!

My Best VBS Highlights Video (I think)

We just finished a wonderful week of ministry at our church.  VBS is a lot of fun, and it is always my task as resident video guy to capture that joy and preserve it in the church archives in the form of a highlights reel.  This for me is an easy job and one that I very much enjoy doing.  Usually it is done very quickly and, though I hate to say it, kind of throw together in a nonchalant fashion.  I never would recommend this style of editing, but it happens and is accepted as being OK.  It always bothers me due to my standard of excellence.  I’ve blamed it on the time crunch– being busy and having to finish by Friday’s big finale.  This year, I had some more time to dedicate to it, since I was home sick half of the week.  I decided to edit with intent.

I remember one year I threw a bunch of footage into Muvee AutoProducer and added music, made a few changes and was done with it.  I gather that I’m not the only one that has been in this unfortunate situation.  This time having spent the time to sync the lyrics and music to what’s on the screen, I was much more pleased with the outcome.  Taking the time to do a few more advanced techniques and raising the production value really paid off.  Though I wasn’t there for the debut, I heard about it.  There were many good comments about the video and I heard reports about how much people liked it.  I got to see the reaction of the audience on Sunday.  I’ve seen the video shared all over Facebook within our community.  It gave me a sense of satisfaction, much more than previous years.

Crazy Things Dads say

I know Father’s Day already passed, but it’s been forever since I updated this blog, so I’m catching up.  Anyway, this crazy countdown got up on sermonspice just in time for Father’s Day and in the countdowns category, it was the #2 Father’s Day countdown.  I tried to make it available on other sites that I’m branching out into, but it didn’t happen soon enough!

The Bible in Rhyme

I’m enjoying partnering with The Bible in Rhyme using its poetry for videos.  Kyle Holt spent three years writing this book.  I hope to make videos of some of the most famous passages in the next year.  Here’s the first.

I mentioned this in my latest article for the CVMagazine- http://www.christianvideomag.com/articles/articles.php?recordID=238.

Finally came to me

When I took a bunch of video on a ski trip with my friends, one of them asked me how many video illustrations I make out of them.  I told him that wasn’t the purpose of be filming.  Instead I did it to preserve the memory and make a little highlight video.  But then his question lingered in my mind.  Especially after I had my big fall.  What could be the message illustrated by this funny event?????  I left it for month’s and finally it came to me, and it was so simple.  What I did was just plain foolish, and proverbs talks a lot about that!  Here’s my new video illustration “A Fool’s Tale” compliments of my own folly!  Enjoy.
